Creature for the day 5-9-11<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I finally feel as if I have recovered sufficiently from the iMAC catastrophe to get back to work. My schedule has been all hodgepodge since my dear friend passed away in December. I always forget that I’m entitled to a period of mourning when someone passes across the Veil. Since Trudy was a part of my daily routine, it was bound to affect me. I’ve had to adjust to the missing part of my mornings, and it’s taken me some time.<\/p>\n

I had big plans to spend working on art related projects this Saturday. But first I made the cupcakes for Mother’s Day. I wanted them to be cool enough to frost on Sunday morning and I knew if I waited till later in the day, I’d be low on energy and ambition. Saturday was one of those clumsy days. I kept spilling and dropping things in the kitchen. When I dropped four partially cooked cupcakes on the floor, I decided I needed to take a day off from trying to get art done and just puttered around.<\/p>\n

By late afternoon I was bored, so I pulled out a quilt I’ve been working on for the longest time. I do believe I started it in late 2002 or so. I do know it was set aside when I got my first book contract in 2004. I have a great many project from pre-book era. Part of my long term plan is to pull out these projects and finish them. Even though they have no deadline or anything like that, they weigh on me.<\/p>\n

I worked on the quilt – a green man – Saturday evening before and after dinner. And Sunday evening after we returned from visiting my mother-in-law.<\/p>\n

I completed the piecing and put all the blocks together last night. This morning I pulled out my scraps stash and grabbed the perfect fabrics for the appliqued eyes. Here are some pics of the quilt top. I’ll get to the quilting part next weekend. Maybe.<\/p>\n
