Dummy sneak peek

I thought it was a good time for a Dummy sneak peek. I’m hard at work on another picture book dummy. This one is for younger readers. Contrary to common wisdom, I’ve been advised to make it rhyme (by professional sources.) For me the rhyming part is easy. What snags my nylons is getting the meter just right. The plan is to get this revision all spit spot and out on submission, again.

Here is a Dummy sneak peek at part of the tight pencil spread I just finished.

Jungle Jump dummy sneak peek This is just a small snippet of the lower left hand spread. As you can see there is quite a lot going on, even in this little part.

I have 3 more spreads equally full to work on. That should keep me out of trouble for a few days. Then comes the hard choice of which of the spreads to bring to final color. I may just put numbers in a hat and choose that way, they are all so much fun in different ways.

No rest for the wicked! Back to the drawing  board!

    • Thanks, Tara. I’m guessing you’ll be first in line to buy this one. I couldn’t keep going without all your encouragement.

  1. If the rhyme and meter are giving you a headache, try Rhymeweaver.com from a fellow PB author. Lane explains the rules and gives you instances when a “cheat” is OK. I think her site takes some of the agony out of the creative process. I can’t wait to see this dummy get picked up by an eager publisher!

    • Thanks, Joanne. Most of the headache is getting the meter right while keeping the flow of the story going where I want it. It’s just one of those things that never get any easier no matter how many tips and tricks one accumulates. I love Rhymeweaver.com – it’s a great site.
