Weekly Picture Book Reads 11/12/12

Also reading a middle-grade book called “The Spindlers.”

No top picks in this bunch.

Jangles A Big Fish Story by David Shannon: Interesting premise.

Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems: Typical Mo silliness.

Each Kindness by Jacquelin Woodson: Not really sure how this got published. Not much of a story arc, the end seems truncated. Vaguely unsatisfying and totally preachy. Not sure a child would sit still for the entire reading. And then there is the art which is by E.B. Lewis. Beautiful but can’t carry the story on its own.

Captain Buckleboots and the Naughty Step by Mark Sperring: What happens in time out from the kid’s POV. Nice flow, fun art.

Earl the Squirrel by Dan Freeman: Another take on the “I like me” theme. Intersting use of black and white with minimal color in the illustations.

The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein: A Twin Towers non-fiction that won a Caldecott.

No Zombies Allowed by Matt Novack: This one was kind of cute.

Daddy is a Doodlebug by Bruce Degen
